There are three engines to be found in the Explorer, and all of them can be had with all-wheel or 4WD. The base engine is a 280 horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder with 310 lb-ft of torque, but you can upgrade to a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horses and 255 lb-ft of torque. The range-topping engine, found on the Sport and Platinum models is a twin-turbo V6 with 365-hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. Driving feel is refined and comfortable, and parking sensors make it easy to navigate tighter spaces.
A base Explorer comes with LED low-beam headlights, a rear-view camera with self-cleaning, cruise control, Ford SYNC, and MyKey. The best way to get more, though is to keep moving up through the trims. Leather seating is standard from the XLT up, as is blind-spot detection, dual-zone climate control, and a moon roof. The most loaded entry is the Platinum trim, which doles out dual chrome exhaust tips, premium audio, and more.
