McCall based Courageous Kids Climbing announced today that Lithia Ford of Boise has joined the ranks of GOLD-sponsor in sponsoring the first ever climbing competition for first responders. The climbing competition is a fundraiser for the nonprofit.

Courageous Kids Climbing provides free opportunities for children between the ages of 3-months and 103-years with special needs, physical or developmental, to experience the various forms of rock climbing at events held in Idaho, Washington, California, Nevada and Arizona.

Courageous Kids Climbing event coordinator Jeff Riechmann said, “It is very exciting to welcome our friends at Lithia Ford of Boise to the sponsorship team for our first ever climbing competition for first responders. It is because of the support from organizations like Lithia Ford of Boise that we are able to continue to do great things for the kids of the Pacific Northwest with special needs.”

Participants from throughout the Pacific Northwest are starting to practice and get ready for the competition, slated to take place at The Commons Climbing Gym in Boise on Saturday, June 12 from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm. First responders from law enforcement, fire, EMS and search and rescue are encouraged to participate. First responders who participate can be full-time, part-time, reserve, seasonal, volunteer or retired. First responders can participate in women’s, men’s and four-person team divisions.

Many first responders participate in rock climbing as a means of staying physically fit. In addition, first responders fill positions on rope rescue teams, rescuing people from the sides of cliffs or even buildings. It is hoped that the climbing competition will be an opportunity for the first responders to showcase their rope skills.
